Validating Worksheets

Understand how the validation process works

Updated over a week ago

As users populate a Taxonomy Worksheet, the tool automatically checks that the correct options are selected for the chosen naming convention.

This validation process runs in the background to ensure that all entries comply with the required structure and rules of the naming convention.

Validation column

The validation column is displayed on the left-hand side of the worksheet.

  • If all values are correct, an output name will be generated.

  • If there are any invalid (rogue) values in the worksheet, an output name will not be created.

Viewing validation errors

Users can identify issues by hovering over the indicator. A message will appear explaining which part of the naming convention is incorrect or missing. This allows users to quickly correct any errors and ensure the worksheet meets the required standards.

Common Validation Errors:

Incomplete Rows:

In the below example, the 'Description' level has not been filled out. All levels must be filled out.

Mappings created between fields:

Users can map levels together to apply conditional logic within the worksheet. This means that selections in one level control the available options in another level. For example, if the Market is set to A, only Products X, Y and Z can be selected.

If a user selects a product that is not permitted for the chosen market, the system will trigger a validation error message, preventing an output name from being generated until the selection is corrected.

Use of Provisional Values:

Within a worksheet, there may be some fields where new values would need to be approved by an Admin before an output can be generated.
